MHSs Science League Participates in April Competition

On April 20, 2017, Marlboro High School’s Science League participated in a competition at Freehold Township High School. Participants from MHS, Freehold Borough High School, Freehold Township High School, Holmdel High School, and Colts Neck High School put their brains to the test to defeat their fellow competitors.

Science League, which is advised by Ms. Marrucca, is one of the many clubs that MHS offers. Students who take interest in science courses, specifically Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and/or Environmental Science, are welcome to participate. Joining the club gives members the chance to showcase their knowledge of the various science subjects, obtain more knowledge in these areas of study, and meet people with similar interests. Practice tests are given at meetings to prepare for run-off exams, which help select four people for each subject to compete in an upcoming competition. There are competitions in January, February, March, and April (four competitions per year). After taking a test, the participants’ scores for each subject are tallied up, and the results are announced.

The competition at Freehold Township was the fourth and final competition of the 2016-2017 school year, in which MHS placed in every category. After all the tests were scored, Marlboro ranked second for Chemistry 1, second for Physics 1, second for Physics 2, second for Environmental Science, third for Biology 1, third for Biology 2, and third for Chemistry 2. Although Marlboro did not place first in any category, MHS was two points away from being first in Environmental Sciences and six points away from being first in Biology 2.

MHS has certainly come a long way from the first competition in January and the season has ended on a high note. For questions about Science League and how to join next year, visit Ms. Marrucca in room D201.
