As well as being a woodworking enthusiast, Nick is a part of Woodworking Honors Society In this interview, Nick reflects on his outcomes and provides his two cents on his high school experience.

  1. Starting off simple, what’re your plans after high school?

I plan to attend a college in Washington DC. While I’m there I hope to get an internship, expand my network somewhere in the United States Capitol and hopefully intern for a senator or representative. If I had to choose one, I’d probably choose Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas or Representative Matt Gates. However, I understand that statistically it’s unlikely I would have a genuine and sustainable career in the political landscape, so I wouldn’t want to waste my degree on it therefore, I’m double majoring in history and my secondary in education.

  1. What’s your proudest accomplishment throughout your high school career?

My proudest achievement in high school was making quite an illustrious career in amateur boxing. I’ve climbed seven victories and only one defeat thus far and I think that’s a pretty good record.

  1. If you had the chance, what advice would you give to freshman Nick?

Don’t only focus on subjects you find interesting. So for me I hated math so I never cared about it. So Really focus more on every subject, not just the ones you like because when it gets to senior year, it’ll really hurt you.

  1. What staff has greatly influenced your high school experience?

I’d say out of all my teachers my AP US History 2 teacher Mr.Nash was definitely like the most professional I’ve had and he’s also simultaneously one of the most personable and amiable teachers that I’ve had. And what can I say, I don’t think he’s very truculent or pugnacious in any manner and so for that reason I like him very much.

  1. What’s a motto that you live by and greatly influences your drive?

A quote I live by is “The sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” This helps remind me that sometimes I need to take a step back and remember that in the long run, the things that I get frustrated or upset about, may not even really matter.

  1. Finally, success means something different to everyone, what does it mean to you?

To me, success is not about notoriety or grandeur, it’s very simple. Success means I’m able to look back on the events of my life and be content with what I have accomplished or achieved. I don’t want to long for anything I don’t have or wish that I had done something that I didn’t, if I can’t, I would say I have achieved “success”.
