The biggest event at Marlboro High School will be returning with even more excitement. The annual Battle of the Classes between the Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior classes will commence on Tuesday November 26th, 2024. This event will be open to all students to support your class and the representatives from your class. Each class is represented by 7 girls and 7 boys, previously voted in by their own grade. These 14 will work diligently for the next month or so, to get the most points for their grade not only at the event but on the days that precede it.
Last year the senior class of 2024 took home the winning trophy for their second year in a row. This year the seniors of 2025 are attempting to take the title of BOTC champions. The sophomores are also a strong contender as they made history last year earning 3rd place as just freshman. The juniors are not giving up, however, and want to move up in the rankings this year. The freshman team is a brand new team of competitors that have yet to prove themselves in the competition and we can’t wait to find out how they perform.
Leading up to the competition there are many ways for your class to earn points. First, on the week of November 12-14th Penny Wars will begin. In penny wars each grade will be given a jar where their goal is to have the most amount of pennies in their jar. Each penny is worth 1 point in this competition, however it’s not that simple. Other grades can place dollars or any form of silver coin in another grade’s jar which counts for negative points. For example, a dime in your jar will cause your point value to go down by 10. So, make sure to bring in pennies to support your class on these days. The class with the most points will win points that go towards your grades score on the day of competition.
Next, is one of the most anticipated days leading up to the event, theme day. On theme day, November 15th 2024, each team will dress as a cohesive theme with elaborate costumes, makeup and theming. The teachers will then vote for their favorite team and favorite execution of theme. The winning team will earn points towards their day of total. Keep a lookout for your class team dressed up in the halls!!
And finally the big day will arrive. Hundreds of students from Marlboro High School will fill the bleachers to watch the event. The bleachers will be separated by grade and decorated with your class color, so make sure to dress accordingly. Seniors are black, juniors are purple, sophomores are white and the freshmen are navy. The event will begin with a performance from the MHS cheer team. Then the events will begin. The teams will participate in 8 game events to earn points for their teams. The games will include scooter races, egg toss, three legged races, heave ho, a thinking event, junkyard relay, hungry hippo and, last but not least, tug of war. These events are fast paced and extremely competitive between the teams to test the athletic abilities of each team.
The games will then be preceded by a performance from the MHS Dance Team as the teams get ready for their lip-sync performances. The freshman will go first for the performances. The lip sync performances will be 5 minutes long in length and a combination of dances, skits and cool tricks to impress the judges and make them laugh. The judging panel will consist of 5 teachers from our school who will score the performances on outfits, lip synching ability, originality, and synergy.
