The NFC
NFC East
From the top of the NFC East, the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles stand as the best team, boasting a 4-0 record, led by the defense, which features many young stars, and the offense, featuring plenty of star power, such as the reigning Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts, Madden cover Athlete Saquon Barkley, and the powerhouse offensive tackle duo of Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata. (Eagles star running back celebrating after a big touchdown) Behind them, the (2-2) Washington Commanders, led by 2024 Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels, look to capitalize on an easy schedule and become NFC East champions for the first time since 2020. The (1-2-1) Dallas Cowboys, led by quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, are struggling to find their rhythm. The Cowboys have one of the best offenses in the league, however, the defense, without star pass rusher Micah Parsons, has become one of the worst in the league. At the bottom, the 1-3 New York Giants look to try to turn their season around. After the season-ending injury to star wide receiver Malik Nabers, the Giants look to rookies Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo to power the offense for the rest of the season.
NFC North
Even though they lost key players and coaches in the offseason, the Detroit Lions are leading the division with authority, picking up where last season left off with a strong offense, led by star running back Jahmyr Gibbs and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, and an even better defense, led by safety Brain Branch. Right behind them are the Green Bay Packers, who look to reclaim the top spot in the division after a big offseason, characterized by the trade for star edge rusher Micah Parsons. While the Packers have one of the best defenses in the Vikings, led by rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy is firmly in the middle of the playoff race. While the defense has shown flashes of brilliance, the offensive struggles have held the team back from competing for the division title. At the bottom, the (2-2) Bears, led by first-year head coach Ben Johnson, have struggled against the NFC’s top teams. Even though the season has not started the way that would have wanted, their young and talented roster still has lots of time to make a run for the playoffs.
NFC South
In a division known for its uncompetitiveness, the (3-1) Tampa Bay Buccaneers are cruising along on the top of the division. Right under them, the (2-2) Atlanta Falcons have been exciting to watch, most prominently star running back Bijan Robinson. The team’s inconsistent offense and defense have stopped them from winning crucial games in the early part of the season. Likewise, the (1-3) Carolina Panthers, led by 3rd year quarterback Bryce Young, have shown flashes, but have come up short in division games. Finally, the (0-4) Saints have been bad to start the season, while also facing major quarterback and roster dilemmas.
NFC West
The (3-1) San Francisco 49ers remain the top team in this division, even though they have been plagued by injuries for the whole season. After the season-ending injury to star pash rusher Nick Bosa, the 49ers offense, led by quarterback Brock Purdy, looks to carry the load for the rest of the season. Right
on their heels, the (3-1) Los Angeles Rams are adjusting to offense without wide receiver Cooper Kupp. Wide receiver Puka Nacua and quarterback Matthew Stafford are carrying the offense and allowing the Rams to win close games. The (3-1) Seattle Seahawks have been a pleasant surprise, winning with roster depth and special teams. At the bottom, the (2-2) Arizona Cardinals look to find their footing in this tough division. Their young core of players have all made huge differences in the start in the season.
The Big Picture
The NFC is crowded with contenders. Philadelphia sits as the early favorite, but the Lions, 49ers, Rams, and Buccaneers all have strong claims to being the top. The middle tier of teams are fighting for a playoff spot, and the rebuilding squads (Giants, Panthers, Saints) face tough schedules moving forward.
The AFC
AFC East
The AFC east is dominated by the current MVP Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills boasting a strong start into the season being 4-0. Being one of the runner ups to the Superbowl everyone expects something big out of them now. Behind them are the New England Patriots struggling with a 2-2 record, with a new coach Jerod Mayo, and a rookie quarterback Drake Maye, a currently weak team, but with massive potential as all the pieces grow into the right place. Next came the Miami Dolphins with a disastrous 1-3 start off to the season. With star wide receiver Tyreek Hill injured, for potentially a while, and with a failing defense the wildcard might be a reach. Finally, the worst team in the league, the New York Jets, with an astounding 0-4 start to the season, almost failing on all fronts, having traded Aaron Rodgers this season needs to be rebuilt.
AFC North
Many consider the AFC North to be the hardest conference in the entire league this year, due to the numerous powerhouses, such as the Bengals, Ravens, and Steelers. Disappointably the rivals to the Bills the Ravens have started 1-3 being one of the worst in their conference, even with having a super star studded cast with Lamar Jackson, and Derrick Henry. Many hope this does not represent the rest of their season, and they are able to recover, due to them being superbowl contenders last season. The Steelers on the other hand have had a wondrous start, with now Aaron Rodgers at the helm of the franchise they seek to hopefully make a deep playoff this year, however needing some improvements on the defensive end of their game. The Bengals led by Joe Burrow are in the middle of the pact, still strong and ready to face on-coming challenges, and encounter a series of injuries. The outlier in the conference the Browns have the same record as the Ravens (1-3) but lack the star players needed for a comeback, and have almost a third of the PF (Points For, Total amount of points scored) than the Ravens, showing a lack of offensive capabilities.
AFC South
Being one of the considerably weaker conferences in the league, having a lot of the weaker teams. The Colts, and Jaguars however stand dominant, each having a 3-1 record, each with their own strong teams but not enough to pass the better teams, like Ravens, Steelers, Bills, Chargers or Chiefs. At the bottom stand the Texans and Titans being 1-3, and 0-4 respectively. Much like the Jets they are plagued with injury, and simply not having enough good players to compete with the better teams in their conference, and in the league.
AFC West
A breakout conference, in which the Chiefs were expected to dominate, has seen a new contender in the LA Chargers rise to the top, having a 3-1 record so far. Justin Herbet manning the team, he has had a monumental season so far throwing over 1000 yards, with 7 touchdowns. The Chiefs, the previous Superbowl runner up, had a flat start of the season beginning 0-2, but were able to claw their way back up to a 2-2 record. Patrick Mahomes, widely regarded as the one of, if not the best quarterback in the league, along with tight end Travis Kelece were able to push the Chiefs to 2 Superbowl win’s in the past 3 years, hoping for a 3rd this year. Both Broncos and Raiders fail to have a cast to compete with the bigger teams in this conference, most likely failing to go to the playoffs, or even wild cards, although the Broncos have a strong defense, many believe it will not be enough.
The Big Picture
The AFC has some of the strongest teams in the entire league, with the Steelers, Bills, Ravens, Chargers, and Chiefs each and everyone competing for their spot in the Superbowl. Each having their own stars waiting to shine, while many other times just have to bide their time and wait to rebuild.
