The 96th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, was held on March 10th, 2024. Jimmy Kimmel was the host of the event. This was his fourth time hosting the Oscars. The awards took place in the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Every year, many people look forward to seeing what awards the Academy of Motion Picture Arts gives to the movies that have been released that year.
This year, Oppenheimer won many categories at the awards ceremony. The movie won best picture, best original score, best cinematography, and best film editing. Cillian Murphy won best actor for his role in the movie. Also, Christopher Nolan was chosen as best director and Robert Downey Jr. received best supporting actor, both for Oppenheimer. Best actress was awarded to Emma Stone for the second time in her career. She won this award for the movie Poor Things. The movie also won best makeup and hairstyling, best costume design, and best production design. In addition, Da’Vine Joy Randolph won best supporting actress.
Music was also an important aspect of the awards show. The award for best original song went to Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell for “What Was I Made For?” which was written for Barbie. This made Billie Eilish the youngest person to win two Oscars. Also, many people loved Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken” performance. He performed the Barbie song, which was also nominated for best original song, in a sparkly pink suit with matching gloves. Gosling got other members of the Barbie cast and crew involved in the performance, including Mark Ronson, the producer of the movie’s soundtrack, Simu Liu, another Ken in the movie, and even Barbie herself, Margot Robbie. Overall, it is exciting to see what the critics think the best movies of the year had to offer.
