Favorite Halloween Candies

Elizabeth Whitman

It is officially October. The leaves are starting to fall, the weather is getting cooler, and the days are getting shorter. So, you know what is right around the corner: Halloween. Everyone knows that the best part about Halloween is the candy. In 2021, Americans spent $3 billion on Halloween candy and this year sales are expected to increase. There are so many different types of candy to choose from and everyone has their favorites. Looking at the country as a whole, the top ten Halloween candies from least popular to most popular are candy corn, Tootsie Pops, Snickers, Hershey Kisses, Sour Patch Kids, Hot Tamales, Starbursts, M&M’s, Skittles, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.

More specifically, people within each state have their own candy preferences. For example, in California, the most popular candy is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, followed by M&M’s and Skittles. Floridians agree and are fond of Reese’s as well. Next, they like Skittles and Hot Tamales. New Yorkers enjoy Sour Patch Kids, Hot Tamales, and candy corn. Finally, the favorites in our home state of New Jersey are Tootsie Pops, M&M’s, and Skittles. Clearly, many different states share similar favorite Halloween candies. So, it is nice to know that we have one thing we can all agree on: our love of candy. Happy Halloween!
