It’s The Great Disappointment, Charlie Brown!
November 17, 2020
Recently, Apple announced that the beloved classic special, “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” would not be airing on TV for the first time since 50 years of doing so. It would be exclusive to Apple’s streaming service, Apple TV. It is ironic it is called TV.
People were very frustrated with this decision, but it poses a question. Will this treatment be given to the other Charlie Brown specials such as the Thanksgiving and Christmas ones? Will this happen to other beloved specials such as Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer? Is this a sign of how less and less people are watching TV and moving to digital platforms?
Only time will tell and we will see which of our favorite specials are still on TV. We must also think to what degree these deals will go to. In conclusion, while sure you could watch these specials on DVD, It poses an interesting question about if TV is becoming irrelevant and if this is right for future generations to come?
