Top 10 Games of 2019
January 9, 2020
2019 is over so I’m here to rank the best video games of the year!
- Katana Zero
Platforms: PC, Switch
This awesome slick action platformer has great gameplay and graphics. Levels are a bit short but each one is different than the last. Katana Zero is a lot of fun when going around killing enemies.
- Shovel Knight: King of Cards
Platforms: PC,PS4, PS3, PS Vita, Xbox One, Wii U, 3DS, Switch.
This game has short levels with some fantastic level design. The boss fights can get a bit easy especially with new items. Though the gameplay is quite simple it still has a lot of depth. The game also has a lot of charm.
- Ape Out
Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch
The amazing soundtrack combined with the striking visuals make a great gameplay experience. The gameplay is very simple with new mechanics every chapter. The game is also very fun running across levels smashing enemies into walls.
- Apex Legends
Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
The fast paced frantic gameplay makes Apex Legends very fun. All the characters are likeable and have their own unique abilities. The art style is very good with the different locations.
- Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order
Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
After the disappointment of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker this game does everything that the movie did wrong right with it’s similar story, great likeable characters and worlds. The levels can go on for a while with some massive frame-rate drops and glitches. But despite these flaws Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is a fantastic experience.
- Death Stranding
Platform: PS4
As I said in my review Death Stranding is an amazing experience. The online system is great and innovative. The story is very emotional and the graphics complement the scenery.
- Mortal Kombat 11
Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch
This is one of the best fighting games I’ve ever played. It’s fun and fast paced with some great combos. While the gameplay mechanic “Fatal Blow” (Which is given when you or your enemy is near death percent) can get very repetitive with its very long animation and can bring the pace down in certain fights. Though the game makes up for it with you being able to use it once in an entire match.
- Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes
Platforms: PC, PS4, Switch
I find this game very interesting with its unique levels and weird enemy designs. While the cut scenes can be very long and not all levels being perfect, I like the frantic and fast paced gameplay. The gameplay can get repetitive but with new abilities to play with you start strategizing. The music is very well done and the game has a unique style. The game might not be for everyone but I certainly enjoy it.
- Rivals of Aether Steam Workshop
Platforms: PC (Steam), Xbox One (Does not have Steam Workshop)
So this game didn’t release in 2019 but the Workshop did. You see, the developers made a “Workshop Beta” where you could code and put in your very own characters. The Rivals of Aether community put in tons of content in with some great (but mostly joke) characters. It has given me and my friends plenty of laughs with its absurdity. Also it’s my list .
How to play the workshop beta:
- Right click “Rivals of Aether”
- Click “Properties”
- Click the “Beta” tab
- Click “Workshop Branch”
- Go down and click “workshop_branch – Workshop Beta” then click done
And now go download as much characters and stages as you want!
And my Game of the Year is…
- Devil May Cry 5
Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
“Video games are supposed to be one thing. Fun. Fun for everyone!”
- Satoru Iwata
Former Japanese president of Nintendo
I feel that this quote describes Devil May Cry 5 immensely. The gameplay is amazing, the graphics and visuals are astounding, and the music is awesome. The amount of love and effort that was put into this game really shows. Games I feel have been bogged down by long tutorials, bad cut scenes, and walking segments. Devil May Cry 5 is what a video game is supposed to be about, fun! The cool combos you can pull off are so amazing. You get a motorcycle that turns into two chainsaws! My only problem with the game that I have is the character “V” because I don’t like his button mashing play style but he certainly has his moments.
And that’s why Devil May Cry 5 wins my Game of The Year!
