Butterflies – A. Ferrise

A. Ferrise

Always expect the unexpected
Look for the signs,
For they are written
Deep within the lines.

You know it’s here
When the winged creatures
Release themselves from cocoons
And reside in your brain.

They creep and crawl
Mind tight, stomach twisted
Knots galore, tears ready
Flying and beating their wings.

You have to speak
They urge and demand
They implore you to
Confess every single sound.

Butterflies up your throat
They hold you back,
Yet they want words
To be spoken aloud.

Butterflies in your mind
Soaring with anxious content
The feeling of happiness
And feeling of fear.
But once you speak,
They evacuate your mouth
Your love is set free
Horror, there is none.
