Marlboro Mustangs Basketball Mid-Season Recap
February 24, 2017
After 19 games this season, the Mustangs have posted an 11-3 record in the A-North Conference and a 14-5 record for the season. This puts the boys in second place of Shore – A North conference. This also puts the Stangs in the 6th seed at the Shore Conference tournament and the 4th seed at the States tournament. Whether it’s been the stunning comeback of PG P.J. Ringel or the excellent play all around, the team has looked strong throughout the entire season.
I caught up with one of the younger members of the team named Alex Ratner who is a freshman point guard. When I asked him how has the team played so well this season without senior Emir Anda, he said, “guys keep going hard at practice and everyone is stepping up whether or not another teammate is down.” Sounded like a positive comment from the youngster. He is very excited to be a part of such a great group of players led by coach Mike Nausedas.
Some of the Mustangs best wins this year came against Christian Brothers Academy twice, Colts Neck twice, Neptune, and Manasquan. Throughout the season players such as Dylan Kaufman, Justin Marcus, Daniel Weiss, Ryan LaRocca, and Brian Levine have proved to be very effective in the success of this team. Other players that have contributed to the success of the Stang’s season include Matthew Cabrejos, Noah Turner, Ethan Sherman, Sam Udell, Andrew Rimland, Eddie Paladino, and Alex Ratner, with assistance coach Mike Koontz and Schlomo Nachum giving great pointers to the boys throughout the season. Because of every player on this strong Marlboro Mustang team and the superb coaching by Nausedas, Koontz, and Nachum, the Stangs have had one of the most successful seasons in recent history and we wish them the best of luck in the Shore Conference and State tournament.
