The Wrestling Team Begins a New Era

Josh Laufer

The Marlboro Wrestling team has begun the new season under a first-year coach Charlie Frankel. Coach Frankel previously wrestled for the team, totaling 110 wins. Now, he takes over a squad that finished 4-16 in 2016.

However, his transitioned is made easy by the plethora of seniors on the roster. Mike DeFaria, Michael Doukas, Jared Sheinwald, Chris Owens, Logan Semegram, Ben Berman, and Richard Jang all lead by example for the younger athletes. Doukas leads the team with 56 career wins with DeFaria narrowly behind him with 46. Promising young wrestlers include Alan Lipovetsky, Tyler Perlow, and Eric Lipovetsky. They’ll be expected to enter the starting lineup and handle a bigger role. Yet, the team is confident on their abilities to perform and improve.

Thus far, the Mustangs sit at 0-1 on the year, but the depth throughout the program has them set up for strong post-season runs. Coach Frankel’s personal experience and success combined with the talent he’s inherited has the Mustangs primed for a successful season. The journey through District 19 will be grueling but the Coach Frankel will have his boys prepared.
