My Darkness

I watched the dark ocean roar in the night

I kept my distance from the preceding waves

Staring at the water and birds as they soared

My mind was frozen, I was in a daze

Standing here feels like a lifetime ago

This ocean, this town, was our sacred place

We only had a few more years to go

The waves chased one another in a race

Slamming to the ground, salty kisses on my toes

Years ago this was my favorite place to be

I stored all my memories in my heart shaped case

Years passed, everyone now seems to know

The ocean is my darkness, without it, I am free.
