Melissa Astarita, a sophomore at Marlboro High School, has already broken all of the MHS women’s gymnastics records and has helped this year’s amazingly talented varsity team break the school team record, which stood for 16 years. Aided by her state vault championship title, at the NJSIAA Gymnastics Individual Championships at Montgomery High School in Skillman on November 14, 2015, she has now made the Central Jersey, First Team All-State for the second year in a row. In addition to these accomplishments, Melissa can now add Central Jersey, Section 1 Gymnast of the Year for 2015 to her resume.

A gymnast since she was very young, Melissa began competing at the age of five. Presently she is a level 10 gymnast and competes for Action Gymnastics in Howell, NJ, with her favorite event being the floor. Melissa says her favorite aspect of gymnastics is the reward she has gotten after the hours and years of hard work.

This past summer Melissa verbally committed to Penn State gymnastics, on a full scholarship, and is looking forward to being on another amazing gymnastics team after she graduates from Marlboro High School.
