forever in the wild

Cameryn Tepper, Grade 11

the years go by

but the unwavering river remains

a child throws a stone into her roaring foam

and cries when it will not skip

but she knows

this is not the hardest thing he will grow through

she’s seen innocent children

been turned into animals

when the days of their youth

when the days where the cold of her banks warmed their bare skin

at midnight

finally came to an end

if you are afraid of change

feel the sand beneath the rocks

and the freezing currents that run with salt

her pride and joy

she will prove to you

not everything is temporary
