You Don’t Deserve a Love Song

Eden Aulov

“You don’t deserve a love song

You don’t deserve my tears

You don’t deserve my art

You don’t deserve my screams.

My thoughts and head are not yours

My feelings’ nether causes

None of them you’re acclaimed to”

I say with gentle pauses.

You’d be everything I’d hoped for

Everything I dreamed

Yet my glasses are on and still I am

As blind as I can be.

My heart can’t root myself in yours

Give the abandon I so crave

I need to distance myself from you,

Though golly, I’ll complain.

You know you make me manic?

Ruin my mood with panic?

Such reckless, sweet disciples

You gift to me, satanic.

I carved a place out for you

You don’t deserve all I’ll give you

My darling, my sweet devil,

You don’t deserve my heart.
