Climate activists protest in DC on Earth day

On April 22, 2022 climate activists protested at the White House urging Biden to take more action on the pressing issue of climate change. These protesters believe the Biden administration has failed to efficiently handle the progressive issue. The intention of this protest is to influence the D.C. Council to handle the matter much more seriously. The world is running low on ways to heal or slow the damage done to the planet. Regardless, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change of the U.N. holds themselves accountable to their job and is faithful for a positive shift in humanity to help turn the world around.

In the spirit of taking action, the Biden administration fought greenhouse gas emission by presenting recent ideas of switching to electric cars, rejoining the Paris climate accord, instituting federal permits for the Keystone XL oil pipeline, and creating other policies to lessen emissions of methane. However, given the high gas prices due to the war in Ukraine, President Biden made decisions that betrayed the betterment of the climate crisis. He plans on opening more public lands to drill for oil even though he possesses a campaign that promises an end to new oil and gas extraction. These contradicting actions are frustrating for climate activists, many of which are youth. After all, the future is the youth.

As a collective, you live in the home of the free. You have the freedom to express yourself and it’s important to utilize this liberty for major predicaments such as the climate crisis. This is no new problem. It’s something that has existed for a long time. It’s important to ensure a better world for the future. Do it for yourself. Do it for your loved ones. Do it for the planet. Take action today because support and voice makes a difference.
