In a sold out Madison Square Garden against the Knicks Tuesday, star Warriors point guard Steph Curry passed Ray Allen for the all-time 3 pointers mark, drilling a step back shot to make his 2,974th triple. This is a historic mark, as Curry is seen as revolutionizing the 3 point wave that has swept the NBA over the last decade, as many new faces and young superstars have looked up to Curry and his game. Does this cement Curry as the greatest shooter to ever step foot on an NBA court? Let’s examine some of the stats.

Ray Allen, the previous record holder, held a career 3 point percentage of 40%. This beats Steph’s 37%, however, Allen played 1300 career games. Steph beat his record in a mere 789 games. That is about 7 seasons’ worth of games, and that just goes to show how many shorts Curry has taken and made throughout his illustrious career. Curry obviously took a lot more shots to get to the mark, so it can be argued that Allen was more efficient, but now you can’t argue with the record, and who knows if it is ever going to be broken, especially since it seems like Steph has a lot left in the tank. Curry has another renowned sharpshooter on his squad, that being Klay Thompson, but even for all the credit he gets, he is still 1000 threes behind Curry, another measure of his beyond-the-arc dominance.

Overall, Curry breaking this record was historic for shooters and basketball fans alike, and we may never again see as good of a shooter as Stephen Curry when all is said and done. Who knows how many threes he will finish with? Will his record be broken in the future? All we know now is that there is a new record holder in the sport of basketball.
