For the first time in his 6 year MLB career, Noah Syndergaard will be pitching home games somewhere other than New York. On Tuesday, he signed a one year, $21 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels to join up with stars Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon, and Shohei Ohtani.

It was a series of ups and downs for Thor in the Big Apple, as he burst onto the scene in 2015, quickly becoming a fan favorite and playing an integral role in that 2015 World Series team. The following year, he was an All-Star, pitching to a 2.60 ERA and pitching a gem in the Wild Card game before the Mets fell short. Ever since that point, however, injuries and shaky performances became the norm for Noah. In 2017, he only made 7 starts before getting hurt, came back strong in 2018 but got injured again, and then stayed healthy in 2019 but had his worst season as a pro. In 2020-21, he made a combined 2 starts, both coming towards the end of 2021. Despite these inconsistencies, he finishes his Mets career a solid 47-31 with a respectable 3.32 ERA, as well as having strong strikeout numbers throughout.

Throughout the season, as Syndergaard recovered from Tommy John surgery, it was a talking point amongst the team regarding whether to extend Noah, offer him a qualifying offer, or let him walk all together. Ultimately, the team issued Noah the QO of one year, $19 million, but he was able to tack on a bit more than that in Los Angeles. While it will be sad to see him leave my favorite team as I have some fond memories watching him pitch, I will be excited to see if he can stay healthy and return to “Thor” form in Los Angeles.
