The Marlboro Mustang hockey program had an excellent season this year and the team surely improved from last season. Last season the team finished at 7-8-5 along with a conference record of 2-6-2. This season was a huge improvement from last season as the Mustangs finished 10-10-2 with a 5-4-1 conference record. This is largely due to outstanding goalie play from Jason Williams and leading goal scorer Matthew Beck (13).

To start the season, the Mustangs opened up on a hot note with a 5-1 victory over Woodbridge behind two goals from Senior Brandon Acri. Anthony Galante also added a goal and an assist. In another regular season game later in the season, the Mustangs did something not many team or players have the luck of being a part of. In the matchup with Bayonne, the Mustangs had two players each have a hat trick. Matthew Beck and Jack Intveldt both scored three goals apiece in the romp over Bayonne. Intveldt also added two assists totaling five points for him on the game. The final in this one was 8-1.

Later in December, Marlboro also showcased their goal scoring in a 10-0 monstrous victory over Lacey. The Mustangs scratched six goals across in the 3^rd period. This game also featured two hat tricks. Luke Bartow and Casey Cavasin each scored 3 goals in the Stangs absolute dominant performance.

In another matchup with Bayonne later in the season, Freshman Goalie Jason Williams recorded his best game as a Mustang. Williams recorded the shutout for the Stangs as they defeated Bayonne 4-0. Williams saved all 53 shots on goal and backed by goals from Senior Ryan Madiefsky, Junior Matthew Beck, Freshman Anthony Galante, and Senior Luke Bartow the Mustangs were able to roll out of the game with an emphatic win.

The Mustangs looked to carry over their success into the NJSIAA Tournament. They were set against Ridge High School. Ridge is a very talented team and posed a big threat to the Mustangs hopes of advancing but the Stangs were up to the task. Unfortunately, Liam Tormey of Ridge had other plans and scored a hat trick. Despite goals from Marlboro’s Sam Howard, Matthew Beck, and Luke Bartow, the Stangs were unable to advance in the tournament. After a devastating 10-3 loss to Ridge, the season for the hockey Mustangs was over. The Mustangs immensely improved from last year’s performance and look to build on this year and continue their success next season as they hope to advance further in the NJSIAA Tournament next year.
