The Marlboro Mustangs Varsity baseball program has had a successful season as the team finished with eleven wins and eight losses before the postseason. The Mustangs immediately started the season off with a bang as they erupted with a 10-0 victory over Woodbridge. The bats were lead by Gene Napolitano who totaled 4 hits and 4 RBIs. Jeremy Dyzenhaus also tossed 5 scoreless innings in route to his first win of the season. The victory over Woodbridge proved to be a spark for the team as they racked up three more wins to start the season 4-0. A landslide 13-3 victory over Manalapan capped off the four-game winning streak. Although the team had a great start, they finished the first 12 games with a record of 6-6. The next few games were back and forth win and loss, which lead up to the most important game of the season at that point. The Mustangs were set in a crucial matchup with Christian Brothers Academy (CBA). The hitting was led in this one by Junior Mark Ventre as he drove in three and ultimately the winning hit in the bottom of the sixth by scoring two. The Mustangs pulled out an 11-9 victory behind timely hitting and Jeremy Bello’s 5 2/3 innings pitched.

The Mustangs were propelled after this victory and won three straight putting them in perfect position to qualify for the Shore Conference Tournament. The team was pegged against Matawan in the first round of a 1 and done tournament. Senior Brian Reilly totaled two hits and three RBIs to lead the scoring. Jeremy Dyzenhaus pitched a marvelous game with seven innings with four strikeouts. The Mustangs won the first round game 8-2. Their next opponent would be Colts Neck, a tough opponent and they proved it. The Stangs lost a rough one 4-1 as the bats were quieted down. Unfortunately, Marlboro was eliminated from the Shore Conference Tournament with this loss.

The team is looking forward to the State Tournament as they play their first game Monday, May 23, 2016. The team showed a lot of heart and fight this season as well as improvement. Junior Mark Ventre said, “The team fought hard throughout the whole season. We came in clutch and won the big games to get us to where we are now and we could not be happier.” We wish the team the best of luck in the upcoming State Tournament. Go Stangs!
