Special Strides Glow Run

On April 16, 2016, members of Marlboro High School’s Special Strides club participated in the annual

Special Strides run at Congress Hill Farm in Monroe, NJ. Special Strides is a non-profit organization that provides

horseback riding, physical therapy, occupational therapy, therapeutic carriage driving, and experimental learning to

assist people with special needs in a fun environment. Many high schools, including MHS, have a club representing

this organization.

Throughout the year, the club made preparations leading up to this big event. On the day of the run,

hundreds of people (including MHS; Special Strides club members, members from other high schools, and even

people not in the club) were present to take part. This year, Special Strides did something special by making the run

a glow run instead of a regular color run. For each lap, each runner was hit with blasts of four neon colors (green,

pink, blue, and yellow).  They look like ordinary colors in the daylight but in the dark, they glowed. After all the

laps, the runners went inside Special Strides’ barn for a huge dance party with a DJ from Noble Productions. All of

the lights were off in the barn but everyone was covered in the glow-in- the-dark colors from the run, which helped

light up the room.

The glow run shone a light on a great cause and was a fun experience for everyone. This event will surely

continue to light up people’s lives and will surely be a success for years.
